This upcoming 2. Bundesliga season looks to be one of the most tightly competed in years. There are numerous big clubs in the division, who will all compete to be promoted back to the Bundesliga. The league has also been joined by some new teams, trying to test themselves out at a higher level. Here’s my opinion on what you can expect to see in the 2014-15 2. Bundesliga season.
Promotion will be between a large host of teams, and it’ll be anyones guess who actually does get promoted. I expect to see Nuremburg, who’ve strengthed a lot, and Kaierslautern challenging for top spot, with teams like St. Pauli, Furth and Braunschweig all aiming for the other promotion places.
However, we cannot discount other teams such as 1860 Munich, Union Berlin and Dusseldorf who are all capable of promotion.
Relegation next season looks very interesting. The two new boys, Darmstadt and RB Leipzig look as if they both could easily survive. Both have signed some very good and experience players, such as Christian Wetklo at Darmstadt and USA international Terrence Boyd at Leipzig.
I expect to see sides such as Aue, Sandhausen and Aalen fighting it out for relegation. I also wouldn’t be surprised if we saw FSV Frankfurt flirting around the lower echelons of the table.
On a personal level. it would be great if Dynamo Dresden and Hansa Rostock could be promoted back into the 2nd division as both are traditional, although controversial, German clubs.
Stand out players –
The Bundesliga 2 is home to many great players, however I expect some to stand out more than others this season.
Jakub Slyvestr – The Slovakian talisman has recently signed for Nuremburg from Aue and I expect him to score the goals to bring Nuremburg back into the Bundesliga. His pace and power could really excell in this side. He scored recently in the victory against Valencia.
Take a look at how Darmstadt were promoted, amazing!
